How We Can Help

Travel Documentation Guidance
Every destination has different entry requirements for pets. We can help you navigate the necessary process and paperwork to ensure a smooth journey.

Vaccine Certificates
Many countries and airlines require proof of vaccinations, including rabies. We can provide the necessary documentation to meet these regulations.

Vaccinations
We can administer required travel vaccines, including rabies, ensuring your pet is up to date and compliant with travel regulations.

Blood Tests and Deworming (if required)
Some destinations require rabies titers or other specific tests and treatments before entry. We can perform the necessary bloodwork in advance.

Microchipping
A microchip is often required for international travel to ensure pet identification. We can implant and register your pet’s microchip if needed, or confirm its placement and number.

Travel Sedation (if necessary)
If your pet experiences travel anxiety, We can prescribe safe sedatives to help make their journey more comfortable.

Steps for traveling internationally with your pet from Canada

Please make sure you have done steps 1 & 2 before booking your vet appointment.

  1. Check Entry Requirements for Your Destination Country

    • Visit the official government website of the destination country to review pet import regulations. See below for a list of commonly traveled countries.

    • Check for necessary vaccinations, health certificates, microchip requirements, quarantine rules, and any country-specific restrictions.

    • Please note that import regulations can change, and additional requirements may apply based on your pet's species, breed, and health status. It's essential to consult these official resources and contact the relevant authorities well in advance of your travel date to ensure compliance and a smooth entry process for your pet.

  2. Contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)

  3. Schedule a Veterinary Appointment (this is where we come in!)

    • Vaccination– We administer required travel vaccines (e.g., rabies) and other health requirements, ensuring your pet is up to date and compliant with travel regulations. In preparation for your appointment, please gather all previous vaccination and health history (you may call your veterinary clinic to obtain these).

    • Microchipping– A microchip is often required for international travel to ensure pet identification. We can implant and register your pet’s microchip if needed, or confirm its placement and number.

    • Blood Tests and Deworming (if required)– Some destinations require rabies titers or other specific tests before entry. I can perform the necessary bloodwork in advance or parasite treatments.

    • Travel Sedation: We can discuss travel stress management, including sedation if appropriate.

    • We will complete the Health Certificate required for CFIA endorsement (see step 4).

  4. Obtain an Official Health Certificate

    • Many countries require a government-endorsed veterinary health certificate issued within a specific time frame before travel.

    • Your veterinarian will complete the certificate, which must then be endorsed by the CFIA.

  5. Confirm Travel Arrangements

    • If flying, check airline pet travel policies, crate requirements, and any additional paperwork needed.

    • Book flights that are pet-friendly and allow adequate layovers if needed.

  6. Prepare Travel Essentials

    • Get a government-approved travel crate that meets airline and country regulations.

    • Pack your pet’s food, water, medications, and comfort items.

    • Print and carry all necessary documents, including health certificates, vaccine records, and airline confirmations.

  7. Arrival at Destination

    • Be prepared for potential inspections at customs.

    • Follow the country's guidelines for quarantine, if applicable.

    • Ensure your pet is comfortable and adjusts well to the new environment.
